You were nominated for the Gold Star Award because of your efforts to stop the public viewing of pornography in the Central Library.
Your firm stance on this issue serves as a valuable model for elected officials and appointed library board trustees across the country, many of whom are grappling with the same issue. When Internet pornography is displayed on library computers in clear view of passersby, parents hesitate to bring their children into public libraries for fear of having them exposed to lewd images and the individuals who view them. Citizens depend on the professional judgment of people like you to ensure that libraries are pleasant places where families can enjoy reading and learning in a non-threatening atmosphere.
