Family Friendly Libraries is pleased to announce that the Manhattan Public Library will be one of two public libraries receiving of the Family Friendly Libraries Award of Recognition for the month of April, 2007.
We have determined that the Manhattan Public Library is deserving of this award because the library meets all seven of the Family Friendly Libraries Standards for Public Libraries. These standards include, but are not limited to, the utilization of Internet filters in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act, allowing parents to limit their minor child’s borrowing privileges, and providing a ‘children’s parent shelf ’ for materials parents may wish to pre-screen for their children.
The award will be presented by former Manhattan Mayor, Mark Taussig, to library director Fred Atchison and the library board trustees at the next regularly scheduled board meeting, Monday, April 30th, at 4:00 p.m.
