Family Friendly Libraries is pleased to announce that the Minneapolis Central Library has been selected to receive one of our Gold Star Awards for the month of April, 2007. This award is reserved for individuals and libraries which demonstrate exemplary dedication to protecting children in libraries.
You library was nominated for the Gold Star Award because of the actions taken by library staff to stop the viewing of child pornography in your library in February of this year.
Your library’s practice of training staff to be watchful and to take professional and appropriate action when faced with criminal behavior at the library has helped to maintain an environment where all library users can read and learn in a non-threatening atmosphere.
By contacting legal authorities when they witnessed child pornography being viewed on library computers, your staff demonstrated a dedication to protecting children both in the library and in the community at large.
