Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
- Parents have full access to their child’s borrowing record.
- Parents have the option to limit their minor child’s borrowing privileges to only certain collections within the library.
- Materials are acquired and placed determined by local policy made with parental input.
- Parents are included in determining material age-appropriateness based on both the reading level and controversial content.
- Parents have access to a comprehensive list of materials available in the school library.
- Recommended reading/viewing lists are reviewed by school library staff to ensure appropriateness of content for intended readers.
- School classroom libraries are considered an extension or part of the school library and are subject to the school library standards.
- The school library staff will read all books, listen to all audio and view all movies ideally prior to acquisition but always prior to placement in the library, or;
- The school will offer parent volunteers the opportunity conduct material reviews and make placement decisions based reading level and age appropriateness of content prior to placement in the library.
