Dear ,
Family Friendly Libraries has prepared a candidate questionnaire concerning school libraries. Since, if elected/appointed you will have some authority over school library policy, we would like to take this opportunity to provide you with a survey that will benefit both you and us. We can share your responses and make them available to the public.
The issues that potential school board members will be dealing with are very important to us and many other citizens. These issues include how the school board responds to parental concerns and input, the school library’s material selection policy, how materials are screened for age-appropriateness, and whether classroom library materials should be held to the same standard as the school library materials.
You may be aware that school library materials are a growing concern for parents, as the juvenile and young adult literature market has increasingly included controversial content, graphic depictions of mature themes, and language many parents find unacceptable for school library materials.
Answers to this survey will help citizens determine which school board candidates’ views on school library policy most closely reflect their own.
It is our goal to keep you informed about school library issues in the event that you elected/appointed to the school board and work constructively with you and the rest of the school board to ensure that parents concerns are appropriately addressed by school library policy
We wish you well in your endeavor and thank you for participating with us.
Sincerely,
Cover Letter for School Board Candidates
